Hunyuan 3D 3.1 Create Geometry or Textured Models
Hunyuan 3D 3.1 is Tencent’s 3D generation model. Use it here to turn a description or one image into an untextured shape or a textured asset. Choose the output around your next task, whether that is sculpting the form, making your own materials, or developing a finished look.
Start FreeHunyuan Geometry or Textured Output?
Hunyuan 3D geometry-only output suits form development; textured output brings surface appearance into the same review.
Choose Geometry when you want a base for sculpting, need to inspect proportions without color, or already plan to create your own materials. A furniture concept, for example, can be judged first by its seat, supports, and overall volume before you settle its finish.
Choose Textured when color and material placement help explain the design. For a collectible or decorative prop, the painted regions may be as important as the outline. This option generates appearance with the mesh, so you can assess both together.
PBR, or physically based rendering, is an optional setting for Textured output. It adds material properties for a lighting-based workflow. Enable it when surface response matters, then evaluate those materials in the scene where the asset will be used. PBR starts off by default.
Set the Face Count Around the Asset’s Role
Ask for enough geometry to support the visible form and the editing work ahead.
The face target here ranges from 40,000 to 1,500,000, starting at 500,000. Choose a target that supports the object’s curves and details while keeping the mesh manageable.
| Your next task | A useful starting decision | What to assess |
|---|---|---|
| Compare proportions | Geometry output; begin with the default target | Overall volume, spacing, and attached parts |
| Place a prop in a wider scene | Evaluate a lower face target | Whether curves and the silhouette hold up at the viewing distance |
| Develop visible surface relief | Evaluate more geometry once the form is useful | Whether raised or recessed features exist in the mesh |
| Paint or sculpt in your editor | Geometry output with manageable density | How readily you can select, reshape, and organize the mesh |
If an attachment is missing, return to the reference or description. If the outline is right but the mesh is cumbersome, lower the target or simplify the downloaded asset.
Explain the Parts That Give the Object Its Shape
Use the input to establish structure before fine surface detail.
For text-to-3D, describe the main volume, the pieces connected to it, and their proportions. A short description of a stool’s seat, legs, and crossbars gives a clearer construction idea than a room scene filled with other furniture. The text field accepts up to 1,024 characters.
For image-to-3D, choose one complete view that reveals the important connections. A three-quarter view can show depth and an opening that a frontal view hides. The input accepts JPG, PNG, or WebP up to 6MB.
Use the image generator to develop an unfinished visual idea. If an existing reference is cluttered, remove its background and check that small protruding parts remain intact. Choose the picture that explains the object most clearly, even if another picture looks more dramatic.
Hunyuan 3D 3.1 vs 3.0: Check the Workflow, Too
A version change does not mean every older option carries over.
Tencent’s 3.1 service adds top, bottom, and diagonal reference views to its broader input capability. Its API also marks the dedicated LowPoly and Sketch modes as unavailable with 3.1. Here, the Hunyuan interface offers text or one image, Geometry or Textured output, a face target, and optional PBR.
When following a 3.0 tutorial, translate the intended task into these available controls. A lower face target can help reduce complexity, but it is not the older dedicated LowPoly mode. If your task depends on several source views, choose a multi-image workflow instead.
Hunyuan or Tripo for Your Next Model?
Choose by the information you can supply and the decisions you want to control.
Stay with Hunyuan when text or one reference is enough and your central decision is whether to develop the form alone or with generated appearance. Its explicit output choice makes that starting point clear.
Use Tripo 3.1 when another side of the object carries important information: its named view slots let you organize front, side, and back references. It also separates geometry quality from texture quality.
Consider Meshy 7 when you want a separate texture description or image to guide the finish. For example, you may already have the object design but want to direct the treatment of painted and exposed surfaces.
Take the Form into Your Own Scene
The most useful result is the one you can continue working with.
Rotate the model to inspect joints, openings, and its underside. For textured output, examine the shape without relying on markings that only suggest depth. Download the GLB and set its size and orientation in your editor before combining it with other assets.
A sculpting base, a scene prop, and a print each need a different finish. For printing, establish a closed volume and practical wall thickness; for animation, plan deformation and rigging. The 3D generator guide covers the broader input-to-download workflow when you need help getting started.
