The object input describes the form; texture guidance describes how its surface should look.
For a worn travel chest, the main reference should establish the body, lid, handle, and proportions. A texture description can then assign wood, metal, or weathering to those parts. Asking for another handle belongs in the object design, not in a surface instruction.
This distinction also helps when reviewing a result. If the lid is too thick, improve the shape reference. If its color or finish is wrong, revise the texture guidance. Keep the revision focused on the part of the asset you actually want to change.
Build the Shape from Text or Images
Choose the input that best captures the design you already have.
Text is useful for an object that has not been drawn. The shape description accepts up to 600 characters. Name its main volumes and how the parts connect, then add distinguishing features. Keep the surrounding scene out of the description unless it belongs in the asset.
One image provides a specific visual design. Show the full outline and the features that distinguish the object from similar props. Use the image generator to resolve the design first if the current reference leaves important details undecided.
Multiple images add views of the same object. Meshy’s input accepts up to four, with a 20MB limit per image. Select views that reveal different structure while preserving the same proportions and pose. Extra images should answer a shape question, not introduce another design variant.
Direct Meshy’s Surface with a Reference or Description
Choose Textured output when material placement is part of the design.
Use a texture prompt to assign a finish to recognizable parts: the body, handle, trim, or base. It accepts up to 600 characters. Describe the relationship between materials so the result has a clear surface direction rather than a collection of unrelated style words.
Use a texture image when showing the intended finish is easier than describing it. Choose either written or image guidance for the surface. The main object description or reference images establish the structure; the texture reference guides its appearance.
Optional PBR adds material properties for a lighting-based scene. Review reflective and rough regions under your own lighting after download. A bright highlight in the source should not be mistaken for a painted stripe when judging the intended finish.
Balance Ultra, Polygon Count, and Topology
Detail generation and mesh organization serve different parts of the workflow.

For a background prop, evaluate how much geometry its silhouette needs at the intended distance. For an object shown close to the camera, check curvature and relief before reducing the target. The requested count is not a guarantee of the final face count.
Ultra is not available with multi-image input here. If extra views explain a hidden attachment, prioritize that information over a detail option. A more detailed interpretation of an unclear source can still be the wrong shape.
Meshy 7 vs Meshy 6: Look at the Shape
Meshy’s published upgrade focuses on reference alignment rather than appearance alone.
The release describes changes to image encoding and training data aimed at carrying visual structure into geometry. When comparing an older result, inspect the location of components and the depth of visible relief, with textures hidden where possible.
Meshy also documents difficulties with loose hair strands and exact repeating structures. For those designs, review whether fine parts remain separate and whether repeated elements keep their spacing. Rebuild precise repetition in your editor when the asset depends on it, rather than treating a generation setting as a dimensional constraint.

Review the Prop Before Building on It
Separate the features you want to keep from the work you still need to finish.
Inspect the untextured shape for merged gaps and misplaced parts, then restore materials to assess the finish. Open the downloaded GLB in your editor to set scale, check the actual topology, and prepare the asset for its destination. Any additional returned files appear in the task’s available downloads.
For a character accessory, check the attachment area against the character. For a repeated scene prop, assess mesh complexity and texture memory across several copies. These practical checks help you decide whether to simplify, repair, or keep the asset as it is.
